Dog(wood) Days!

Posted on Posted in Apples, Hard Cider

This weekend at the orchard we’re enjoying Dog(wood) Days, celebrating our dogs and the ciders we made in collaboration with Dogwood Coffee.

We’re open on Saturday and Sunday this weekend from 10:00 until 6:00 both days. Cidery tours are at 11:00, 2:00, and 5:00 and the orchard tour is at 12:30 (with an additional orchard tour on Sunday at 3:30). Join us along with Dogwood Coffee on Saturday at 3:30 for a presentation on coffee cherries and two special ciders we made with coffee cherries.

If you know us and you know Dogwood Coffee, you know how important well-grown ingredients are to what we do. But you also know how important our dogs are to us. So when it came time to name the two ciders we were planning with Dogwood, we chose “Farm Dog Fresh” and “Farm Dog Dry.” And, it turns out, the Costa Rican coffee farm that produced the coffee cherries we used in these ciders has a couple of special dogs too. So, dogs all around this weekend. And if you bring yours with you, just remember your leash (because some dogs get pretty excited by the chickens running around). We’ll have a special program at 3:30 on Saturday to explain coffee cherries (also known as cascara) and how we made the cider, plus tastes of the cider and a beautiful flight that Dogwood developed for the event.

To look forward to next week: Autumn Equinox Pop-Up at the orchard on Saturday, September 24 from 6:00-9:00 and, could it be, Haralson apples already??? The orchard in the evening provides a magical place, and our barn is an intimate venue for a meal and music. Check out the menu developed by the always amazing Gwen Anderson of Chromatic Catering:

And to look forward to the week after that: A cider festival! Here at Sweetland Orchard! Saturday, October 1 from 6:00-9:00 with metro area orchard-based cideries in attendance including #12 Ciderhouse, Keepsake Cidery, Milk & Honey Ciders, and Wyndfall Cyder.
